What is Community Immunity®?
Inspired by immunity in public health.
Community Immunity is VOCC's prevention and resilience-building philosophy for preventing extremist ideologies, radicalization, and terrorist influences from taking root in individuals, schools, institutions, and communities.
Rather than waiting for extremist ideologies to spread, Community Immunity seeks to strengthen the conditions that make such ideologies less attractive, less credible, and less likely to succeed.
Extremist ideologies do not take root in strong communities.
Community Immunity focuses on strengthening ten protective factors, including trust, belonging, inclusion, critical thinking, ethical leadership, responsible digital citizenship, civic participation, community ownership, social cohesion, and adaptive capacity.
When these factors are strengthened together, communities become more resilient, more secure, and better equipped to resist harmful influences before they escalate into crises.
