Why VOCC is different
VOCC Resilience Foundation is the creator of Community Immunity®, a prevention-first philosophy and framework designed to help individuals, schools, institutions, and communities resist extremist ideologies before they take root.
While many approaches focus primarily on responding to radicalization, violent extremism, and terrorism after vulnerabilities have emerged, VOCC focuses on strengthening the protective factors that reduce vulnerability and build resilience before crises occur.
At its core, VOCC represents a shift from reaction to prevention, and from vulnerability to resilience.
African Approach
VOCC is pioneering a distinctly African approach to preventing extremist ideologies and strengthening resilience.
Rooted in African realities, experiences, communities, and challenges, Community Immunity® was developed in response to a fundamental question: how do we strengthen communities before vulnerabilities become crises?
The result is a prevention-focused philosophy that seeks to address the conditions that enable extremist ideologies to gain influence, rather than waiting to respond after harm has already occurred.
VOCC believes that Africa's challenges require solutions that are informed by African contexts, shaped by African experiences, and designed for African communities.
to African Problems
VOCC is committed to developing practical, evidence-informed, and locally relevant approaches that strengthen resilience and prevent extremist ideologies from taking root.
Rather than importing solutions developed elsewhere, VOCC seeks to generate African knowledge, African innovation, African leadership, and African resilience-building approaches capable of responding to the continent's unique realities and opportunities.
Strengthening protective factors before vulnerabilities become crises.
Our approach seeks to reduce vulnerability to extremist ideologies by strengthening:
- Trust
- Belonging
- Inclusion
- Critical Thinking
- Ethical Leadership
- Responsible Digital Citizenship
- Civic Participation
- Community Ownership
- Social Cohesion
- Adaptive Capacity
These protective factors help make extremist ideologies, terrorist influence, and harmful narratives less attractive, less credible, and less likely to succeed.
and Practice
VOCC combines community action, education, leadership development, research, innovation, measurement, and evidence-based practice to advance practical solutions to prevention and resilience-building challenges.
Our work bridges the gap between theory and practice by transforming research insights into community-based interventions, leadership initiatives, educational programmes, and resilience-building strategies.
What We Build
VOCC recognizes that resilience and prevention efforts should be measurable. The Foundation is developing original frameworks, methodologies, assessment tools, and measurement systems designed to assess protective factors, identify vulnerabilities, and support evidence-informed decision-making.
VOCC was established in Nigeria but is guided by a broader Pan-African vision. We envision a future where communities across Africa possess the knowledge, leadership, relationships, and protective factors needed to resist extremist ideologies, strengthen resilience, and contribute to peaceful, secure, and prosperous societies.
VOCC is different because it is building a first-of-its-kind, Pan-African, prevention-first movement that combines Community Immunity®, research, innovation, leadership development, and community action to prevent extremist ideologies from taking root through African solutions to African challenges.
A first-of-its-kind African movement.
